Our Wedding Playlist- Ceremony and Reception Songs

My husband and I  both love music. My style is a mix of 50’s, 80’s, Disney and throw in some random club songs and 90’s rap. While he is consistent with classic rock…hard rock…screaming rock…angry rock…you get the idea. Planning the music for our big day was crucial. We wanted the songs to reflect us. We wanted a mixture of fun and goofy with touching and romantic. Ultimately my husband chose our first dance and we agreed on many more.  The end result was a soundtrack to our big day. I still listen to it constantly and I am transported back to that day. Whenever Clocks by Coldplay comes on the radio or 1,2,3,4 by the Plain White Tees, I get a little nostalgic!

My husband and I couldn’t afford a custom logo displayed in lights. We couldn’t pay for an ice sculpture. However for free…we could show our guests who we were through music. Below is a rundown of our song selections for inspiration. I follow up with some other tunes to consider for making your own soundtrack as a couple. I also have suggestions below on unique and special songs for your big day. For instance, The Vitamin String Quartet has beautiful instrumental versions of so many songs without that electronic karoake sound. You can listen to samples of all these songs either on the sidebar or at the end of this post! Enjoy!

Our Wedding Soundtrack circa 2009!

Family Entrance: God Only Knows What I Would Be Without You by the Beach Boys

Bridal Party Entrance: 1,2,3,4 by  The Plain White Tees

Bride’s Entrance (ahem me): Clocks by Coldplay

Unity Candle: There Is Love (The Wedding Song) by Peter, Paul and Mary…it’s traditional and it is soooooo good.

Procession Out: Beautiful Day by U2

Reception:

Family Entrance: Pride (In the Name of Love) by U2

Bridal Party Entrance: I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister (This was awesome!)

Bride and Groom Entrance: Hot for Teacher by Van Halen

Ceremony: My awesomely talented friend Katie Kraft played these songs live on guitar and piano while she sang. She is awesome. If you live in the Washington D.C. area…find her and Logan Kraft. They are awesome and you will love them!

First Dance: Echo by Trapt

Mother/Son: Song for My Son by Donna Lee Honeywell (country version)

Father/Daughter: Butterfly Fly Away by Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus (okay I saw the movie prior to the wedding and bawled at this part…I will own it…I love this song and I would do it again!)

Cake Cutting: Eat it by Weird Al Yankovic

Bouquet Toss: All the Single Ladies by Beyonce (not original but it had just come out…it had to be)

Garter: Whatta Man by Salt and Peppa and En Vogue

So those were our choices! There was rock, oldies, humor and yes even 90’s rap! We even played the theme from A Summer’s Place because it was my Aunt Reggie and Uncle Terry’s wedding song and they were celebrating their anniversary. The soundtrack of the day reflected us as a couple. Remember if you don’t have money to spend on over the top customizations, you still can add your touch as a couple to the music for your special day.
